MUNNYSA/Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Model United Nations (MUN)?

Model United Nations is an internationally recognized format for debate, where you as a delegate (a person representing a specific country) will debate in a simulated United Nations forum. You will be debating on a specific issue, where you will have to represent an opinion of your delegated country. It all has the purpose of invoking cultural diversity, gaining confidence by public speaking, and enhance diplomatic understanding.

Some examples of what you might be representing would be:

The Russian Federation in the Human Rights Council, discussing the issue of Women’s rights.

Or America in the 2nd Economic and Financial Committee, discussing how to improve the economy of Less Economically Developed Countries.

The opportunities are endless!

Model United Nations simulations are typically being debated on High School or University level, and conferences are being hosted by different schools around the world. At Nyborg Gymnasium, MUNNYSA sends out delegations (a group of people representing the same country) to different conferences and hosts an annual MUN conference called MUNNY.

  • What is the difference between MUNNYSA and MUNNY?

Model United Nations of Nyborg Student Association (MUNNYSA) is the student association arranging social activities as well as discussing financial matters of the organization. MUNNYSA is also having educational sessions every other month educating students who are interested in different topics from everything to public speaking to international politics.

To see more about what activities are coming up in MUNNYSA check our Calendar of Events, or go to About The Student Association in the menu bar to get more information on MUNNYSAs work.

Model United Nations of Nyborg (MUNNY) is the conference being hosted by Nyborg Gymnasium every year in the beginning of February. Delegations from other schools around the world come together to debate on different issues in a variety of forums. We are always excited to have different nationalities on the school for a week of debate.

  • Where can I sign up for conferences?

Typically, when it is possible to sign up for a conference, there will be further instructions on a Lectio message that will be sent to MUNNYSA members. Otherwise, it will always be possible to write a message to the presidency if there are any question regarding sign-up.

  • How much work do I have to do?

When you sign up for a conference, you will be obligated to participate in around 2-4 preparatory meetings before the actual conference. Our elected Tutor Group will prepare the delegates for the conference. This includes Position Paper writing, which will work as a help for your country’s opinion, and Rules of Procedure (ROP) which is the procedure of the debate in the specific forums. This is to ensure that students will be prepared to start debating.

  • What does it take to be a part of MUNNYSA?

This is the nice part; in theory. it doesn’t take any work from your side to be a part of MUNNYSA. Participation in social events is always optional. If there are any other questions regarding either MUNNYSA or MUNNY, please do not hesitate to write a message to the presidency or the conference management, who’s information you can find under Board or Executive Team.

  • How do I sign up for MUNNYSA?

Just write a message on Lectio to the Presidency, and they will be more than willing to help you get started as a member of MUNNYSA!
